We won’t speak on Ekwueme’s health condition – Enugu hospital

The management of the Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery, Enugu, Wednesday, kept mum over the health condition of second republic Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.

According to Daily Post, “This is as anxiety has continued to mount within the South-East and beyond concerning the condition of the elder stateman.

DAILY POST recalls that Ekwueme reportedly collapsed last Saturday and has been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital located within the Trans-Ekulu, Enugu State.

There are unconfirmed reports that he slipped into coma on getting to the hospital.

However, DAILY POST correspondent who visited the hospital, reports that every effort made to obtain comments from the hospital was futile.

A personal assistant to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Sam Ohaegbulam, who was simply identified as Izu told reporters that the hospital was in a position to speak on any matter concerning Ekwueme’s health condition.

Journalists had requested to have an audience with the CMD, which he turned down, stating that the CMD was in the theatre.

However, the CMD, who was called few minutes later on phone, also declined comments, insisting that every enquiry should be directed to the former VP’s family.

It was the same story at Ekwueme’s residence in Enugu, where nobody was ready to volunteer any information, even though one of the vehicles spotted within the hospital earlier was seen parked in the compound.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Ekwueme collapsed around 2 am last Saturday at his residence in Independence Layout, Enugu.
